One More Encounter With Our Perpetual Rival

A friendly, or rather an exhibition game between  our hometown team and Baikal Energia is slated for September 13. It' s gonna be a third match-up between the teams within a one week stretch....and don't forget about the upcoming  2019 Russian Bandy Cup preliminaries, where the rivals will lock their horns for the forth time in the season, that officially hasn't started yet !!!

At the Governor Cup International SKA dumped Baikal twice, 7-3 and 10-2. I predict tomorrow we will face a way tougher presentation from the Irkutsk squad. The game will take place at the Yerofey Arena in Khabarovsk, but there's good news coming from Irkutsk.

Construction of a new indoor bandy arena is right underway. It will be named the Baikal Arena and hold about 6000 seats during bandy events. It will be opened next spring for the 2020 World Bandy Championship to be held in there. The difference between the Yerofey Arena and the Baikal Arena is that the former is almost twice as big in capacity and the latter will be more versatile. It will be capable of hosting speed skating and short track competitions. They also plan to build a hotel, a restaurant, a rehabilitation center, gyms and underground parking nearby.

The last and final tryout before the Russian Cup round-robin competition turned a little sour for our team. As I predicted, Baikal Energia showed up lots of resistance and stamina and beat SKA, 6-9. Honestly, SKA played the first half-time with the "second bench", that is, the reserve and junior players on the team. They blew it at the commencement, but steadied the game by the end of the first half, 0-4. The second half witnessed the "change of the tide", when the elite players barged in, but it wasn't enough for the final result. Experts perceived the loss as foreseen and almost planned.
